Is the future really on the Side of Justice?
The future is on the side of justice - at least if you listen to principle 6 of Kingian non-violence. According to this belief, the world tends towards justice. Was Martin Luther King Jr. wrong?
There are at least three good reasons to believe that the future is on the side of justice. Firstly, there is convincing evidence that the world really does tend towards justice. Secondly, the truth is on our side. Finally, and most importantly, social justice movements rely on hope, not defeatism.
A Letter Home.
I was going for an erratic but powerful story, and this short article captures my intention well.
It has been almost 10 years since I moved to Europe and 14 years since the Arab Spring changed how I perceive the world. My rose-tinted glasses were forced off, and injustice looked me in the face. As an 11-year-old, I wasn’t sure what to ask, and I am constantly developing how I understand the events.
I don’t have solutions, but I know that solutions will not come so long as the West selectively upholds liberal democratic values.
